NRA BASIC PISTOL COURSE DESCRIPTION
The NRA Basic Pistol Course covers the fundamentals of pistol shooting: safety, pistol and revolver components and operation, ammunition components and operation, proper sighting techniques, proper firing techniques, proper shooting stances, maintenance, storage and many other aspects for safely handling and using a handgun. There is hands-on training throughout the course so students actually practice the subject matter learned as they progress.
A live fire exercise is performed near the end of the course. All students will demonstrate that they can fire five three-shot groups at 15 feet of less than 9-inches in diameter. The exercise is slow fire, using the two-handed grip from a bench rest supported position.
Students will need to supply their own handgun and ammunition. 50 rounds of ammunition are adequate for the live fire exercise and practice. There is a 50-question quiz comprised of multiple-choice and True/False questions with a passing grade of 70%.
Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded the NRA Basic Pistol Course Completion Certificate and associated NRA Basic Practical Rocker patch. This course is the first level course for earning advanced certifications in any of the NRA recognized shooting disciplines.
